Catherine Macleay

Catherine MacLeay was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada July 10, 1960. (This fact alone makes her a natural for The Bahamas; July 10th is Bahamian Independence Day) Cathy, to all she meets, has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology, a Bachelor of Science Degree and a primary teaching certificate while specializing in Dyslexia. Shortly after graduating university Cathy arrived in The Bahamas to teach for the Bahamian government. That was way back in 1988. After spending 13 years in the teaching profession, Cathy decided to expand her horizons and jumped into the exciting world of real estate.

Cathy's first love is the water and has spent many an hour both on top and below the turquoise waters of The Bahamas. She swam competitively at the national and international levels in Canada for 10 years and she continued her involvement in the sport once she arrived in Freeport. She worked as an assistant coach for the Freeport Wave Runners and was asked to serve as an assistant coach for the Bahamas Games. She continues to officiate at swim meets whenever she can. She periodically is involved with Freeport YMCA. Since Cathy was a Y Rat from her swimming days, it is only fitting that she continue here in the Bahamas

While still in the Great White North, Cathy began scuba diving. Where else would one learn to dive but in the frigid waters of Lake Superior? Cathy began managing a dive store, convincing many a northerner of wonders beneath the waves. By the time she left Canada, she was working on her assistant instruction certification. However, once Cathy jumped into the tepid Bahamian seas she was converted- no more dry nor wet suits for her! A t-shirt and sunscreen was all the protection she needed from now on.

Cathy is married to David Mackey, former guitarist of the popular Bahamian group T-Connection, now owner of Mackey Media Ltd, a multi-media marketing company as well as being the leader of Freeport most popular multi- genre band, Uppercut.
They have two beautiful children, Cameron and Sierra and a menagerie of animals, Choklit Moose, the Chocolate Labrador, Nilla Puddin, the Golden Retriever as well as Whiskey Jack and Chloe, the potcats. OH YES there are tales to tell and tails to pull!

Cathy began her real estate career in 2001. After 15 years with Coldwell Banker James Sarles Realty, Cathy is thrilled to move on and become a part of the HG Christie Team, the oldest and most prestigious real estate firm in The Bahamas. Having co-brokered many sales and rentals with HG agents over the years, Cathy already felt at ease working with friends in their comfortable and stress free environment. Cathy has always been impressed by the professionalism and concern the agents of HG Christie have for their clients. She shares HG Christie's attitude and philosophy that integrity and market knowledge, above all else, are the most important aspects of selling real estate. Cathy is deeply committed to her clients, offering her full attention to all she meets. She believes in assisting her clients find the most appropriate property, no matter how long it takes. She is particularly mindful of how newcomers to The Bahamas feel - being in a new county with different customs and attitudes. She remembers her trepidations upon first stepping on these tranquil shores. In addition to assisting her clients with their purchase, she is always ready to assist in whatever her clients need – anything from finding a new hair dresser to which school or babysitter is the most appropriate for their child.

Cathy's philosophy is quite simple; you can expect nothing less than honest, ethical and professional behaviour with a sincere concern for those she meets.
